Texas Health Resources, UC Davis Health System and Children’s Medical Center Dallas are 2013 Davies Award winners and have facilities at HIMSS Analytics’ EMR Adoption Model (EMRAM) Stage 7 status. Celebrate National Health IT Week with examples of how each organization is using IT to improve patient care.
Through its implementation of a full EHR in 2004, Texas Health Resources has achieved a 53 percent reduction in medication errors, reduced cardiac arrests by 23 percent and accumulated a total projected return on investment of $152.8 million.
“Being designated as a Stage 7 facility validates the commitment and dedication our care teams have to utilizing technology for improved patient safety, care coordination and ease of use for our caregivers. It is also recognition for the entire Texas Health resources family as we showcase the outcomes we have been able to achieve across the enterprise as part of our EHR journey.”
– Winjie Tang Miao, president, Texas Health Alliance
As a result of its EHR implementation, Children’s Medical Center Dallas accounts receivable fell from 55 to 32 days; insurance coverage verification improved from 75 percent to 96 percent and 93 percent of staff reported medications arriving on time.
“The importance of information technology in health care is changing the awareness, focus and commitment of the entire organization…Electronic medical records will not only improve the quality of care on a national level, but also pave the way for research and cures for children’s diseases on a global level.”
– Christopher J. Durovich, president and chief executive officer for Children’s Medical Center
The UC Davis Medical Center considers its EHR adoption as one of the most transformative events in its history. The health system has exchanged over 3 million patient records with non-affiliated care providers in its community and performed more than 34,000 telemedicine consultations since 2008.
